About the Role
This is a foundational role for a dynamic and highly capable Operations Manager to lead the setup and strategic scaling of a new microfinance start-up in Harare. The position requires a hands-on professional who thrives in an early-stage environment and possesses a deep operational understanding of the microfinance sector.
The successful candidate will be entirely responsible for building the operational framework from the ground up, ensuring robust compliance, and establishing smooth day-to-day business workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Blueprint and Setup: Design, develop, and implement the complete operational architecture, workflows, and internal structures for the start-up microfinance institution.
- Policy and Procedure Framework: Draft, refine, and enforce comprehensive operational documents, risk management frameworks, credit policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Systems and Governance: Establish and oversee internal controls, lending operations, disbursement processes, and collection mechanisms to ensure efficiency and minimize risk.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure all operational frameworks strictly align with regulatory standards governing microfinance institutions in Zimbabwe.
- Team Leadership: Build and manage a high-performing operations team as the business grows, fostering a culture of accountability and compliance.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A relevant Degree in Banking, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Proven track record of operational excellence within the microfinance or broader financial services sector.
- Direct, demonstrable experience in setting up a microfinance start-up or playing a pivotal role in a similar early-stage financial institution environment is highly required.
- Exceptional technical skill in drafting corporate operational documents, policies, and procedural guides from scratch.
- Strong strategic thinking, quantitative depth, and a high degree of problem-solving resilience.
