About the Role

This is a pivotal, foundational role for a meticulous and strategically minded Finance Manager to establish and oversee the entire financial architecture of a new microfinance start-up in Harare. The position demands a high-caliber financial professional who can seamlessly transition from high-level financial strategy and modeling to hands-on accounting setup in an early-stage environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing robust financial controls, managing regulatory capital requirements, and steering the financial sustainability of the institution from day one.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Infrastructure and Setup: Design, implement, and manage the start-up’s core accounting systems, financial policies, internal controls, and reporting frameworks from the ground up.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis : Develop robust financial models, manage cash flow forecasting, oversee budgeting processes, and provide strategic cost-benefit analyses to support scaling.
  • Treasury and Capital Management: Oversee liquidity management, optimize the firm’s funding structures, and manage the disbursement and collection financial pipelines.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Tax: Ensure strict compliance with all Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) microfinance regulations, statutory requirements, tax obligations, and financial reporting standards.
  • Audit and Financial Reporting: Prepare timely, accurate monthly management accounts and annual financial statements, serving as the primary liaison for external auditors.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Professional Certification: Must hold a recognized professional accounting qualification such as CA, ACCA, or CIMA.
  • Foundational Training: Having successfully completed articles with a Big 4 accounting firm (EY, Deloitte, KPMG, or PwC) is highly required.
  • Regional Exposure: Prior professional working experience within South Africa or the broader regional market is highly desirable, bringing strong exposure to sophisticated financial systems.
  • Industry Background: Experience within the microfinance, banking, or broader financial services sector is highly advantageous.
  • Start-Up Agility: Demonstrable technical capability to draft financial policies from scratch, with the resilience required to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment.
